This week’s filings force primary

Three people have filed for Mooresville’s at-large commissioner seat, forcing a primary on Oct. 10.

Thomas Tohn, Edward “Eddie” Karriker and former town commissioner Frank Owens have filed for the at-large seat being vacated by Bobby Compton, who’s seeking the mayor’s seat.

Former commissioner and N.C. Senator Chris Carney is also vying for mayor.

The current mayor, Miles Atkins, has chosen not to seek re-election.

So far, neither Ward 1 Commissioner Eddie Dingler nor Ward 2 Commissioner Thurman Houston have challengers.

Filing is open until July 21.

The top two vote-getters in the Oct. 10 primary will advance to the Nov. 7 general election.
