Early filing prompts contested mayoral race

Mooresville will have a contested mayor’s race this fall.

At-large Commissioner Bobby Compton threw his name in the hat when filing opened earlier today at the Iredell County Board of Elections. He will join Chris Carney, former Ward 4 commissioner and N.C. senator, in the race for mayor. Sitting Mayor Miles Atkins has announced he will not seek re-election.

Also filing for re-election to the town board today: Thurman Houston (Ward 2) and Eddie Dingler (Ward 1). Compton’s at-large seat has no candidate(s) for now.

On the way out of the Iredell County Board Elections, Carney told the Scoop: “I’m excited for citizens to get to hear two completely different perspectives from two completely different candidates. This will be a real campaign, and we’re gonna talk about the issues that are important to the people of Mooresville.”

And, y’all, we’ll keep you posted every step of the way. Happy Campaign Season!
