Police chase ends in shots fired after suspect used vehicle to assault officers

If Mooresville was ever the place for people to break and enter others’ property, it isn’t anymore.

The Mooresville Police Department sent that message loud and clear around 2 a.m. to three people attempting to break into vehicles in Morrison Plantation.

Mooresville police and Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived on the scene and were able to apprehend one suspect – Jamario Darden, 27 of Charlotte – without incident. Two others fled the scene, initiating a chase.

The driver, Latrelle Davon Jenerette, 25, of Charlotte, led police along N.C. 150, sometimes reaching speeds that topped 90 mph, according to a press statement the town issued shortly ago.

To avoid apprehension, Jenerette rammed his vehicle head-on into two patrol cars then twice into the driver’s side of a third patrol car.

In an attempt to stop the assault, a Mooresville officer fired multiple rounds from his handgun at the suspect’s vehicle.

No one was injured.

Jenerette and passenger Eugene Boateng, 27, of Charlotte were taken into custody without further incident.

The State Bureau of Investigation and N.C. Highway Patrol are assisting in an investigation of the matter, which is standard procedure. The officer who fired his weapon, per policy, has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation’s results.

Darden was charged with two counts of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. Additional charges may be pending. Darden has a lengthy criminal history and gang affiliation.

Jenerette was charged with two counts of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, felony flee to elude, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon on law enforcement, two counts of felony probation violation and multiple traffic offenses. Additional charges may be pending. Jenerette has a lengthy criminal history and is a second-time probation absconder.

Boateng was charged with two counts of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. Additional charges may be pending. Boateng is a fugitive from justice (State of Kentucky) for forgery, tampering and drug charges. Boateng has a lengthy criminal history.
