“Empty Bowls” raises hunger awareness in Iredell County

North Carolina has the 8th highest rate of food insecurity in the country. In Iredell County alone, 25,000 people are food insecure.

If you’ve never attended the annual Empty Bowls event to benefit Fifth Street Ministries, I encourage you to join next year. It’s a humble and beautiful event to raise awareness about hunger in Iredell County. It consists of a simple soup & salad lunch with homemade desserts + stunning, locally-made bowls to choose and take home.

“This bowl is a reminder of those in our community that are hungry,” said Fifth Street Ministries Executive Director Michele Knapp.

Photos: My kids and I attended this year. My son loved the smoked chicken stew, I had the tomato bisque from Groucho’s Deli that was *fire*, and my daughter enjoyed an entire bowl of chili! And y’all: Red Lobster provided its famous Cheddar Bay Biscuits, too! So many thanks to the Create Statesville artists who shared their hearts and talents in the form of beautiful keepsake bowls. We’re so grateful.

We look forward to next year and hope to see YOU there.
